Question:

Do you install underfloor insulation for raised timber floors in Sydney?

Answer:

Yes. We install underfloor insulation in Sydney homes with raised timber floors, fitting polyester batts between the floor joists from underneath, so there is no need to lift floorboards. It suits most homes with a crawl space under the house, including older federation homes and houses with tight or awkward subfloors.

What Is Involved in Insulating a Raised Timber Floor

Raised timber floors are common across Sydney’s older suburbs, from federation cottages to postwar family homes. With open air moving under the house, the floor can be one of the coldest surfaces in the home through winter. Insulating between the joists slows that heat loss and makes rooms easier to keep warm.

The work is done entirely from the subfloor. Our installers crawl under the house and fit the batts between the joists, and nothing inside your home is disturbed. A typical underfloor job with two installers takes a few hours, though larger homes or difficult access can take longer.

Access is the main thing we assess before quoting. The subfloor needs enough clearance for an installer to move around safely, and pipes, cables and ducting have to be worked around carefully. We regularly insulate narrow and limited-access subfloors, but if part of the area is genuinely too tight to reach, we will tell you at the quote rather than leave gaps you cannot see.

We also check for dampness and poor ventilation under the house, as those issues are worth fixing before insulation goes in. Homes built on a concrete slab do not have a crawl space, so this type of underfloor insulation does not apply to them.
